Here are some summaries of our programs:

September 2002 “CANADIAN ROCKIES” with Bill Sallak
On Monday, September 9th Bill Sallak took us on a visual journey in the Canadian Rockies from Banff to Jasper. Travelling frequently by gondola we saw and experienced the beauty that Bill and his wife, Selina experienced when they visited the Canadian Rockies for 3 ½ weeks in the Fall of 2000. Included in the journey was the Lake Louise Area and the Athabasca Glacier ice fields. Bill delivered his promise that we would also catch a glimpse of the “wild life” that call the “Rockies” home. We enjoyed Bill’s photography many times in the past and it was great to have Bill, a long time member of our club, kick off another great year of programs and competitions.

April 2002 "Cruise to the Greek Islands" by Sandy Sanderson and Kathryn Katz

March 2002 "A Photographic Tribute to Joseph DiChello, Jr." by Paul Peterson

Our March 11th meeting featured a very special tribute to Joseph DiChello, Jr., FPSA, HonNEC, who passed away on March 10 of last year. The presentation included some of Joe's very best work from his many years of being a photographer. This program was presented with style by Paul Peterson. Paul was given access to Joe's slides by Joe's sister, Mary Murphy, who, along with several other family members, attended the special presentation. Paul viewed more than 20,000 slides in selecting the images for this tribute to Joe, picking an outstanding array of Joe's images.

Joe's photography was outstanding. His photographs were always beautifully composed and always displayed great lighting. He was especially known for his landscapes, but excelled at each and every genre of photography imaginable. Joe won slide of the year at our club, and won many awards outside of the club. He also sold many of his photographs for use in magazines, books, calendars and greeting cards. His portfolios were most impressive, and inspiring. The two projector program was very well attended.

Joe DiChello joined the New Haven Camera Club shortly after he graduated from college and for 36 years he was one of the club's most respected members. He served as President, Treasurer, Judges Chairman, and Field Trip Chairman in his years with the club. He was on the club's board of directors for as long as anyone can remember and he was always willing to work for the benefit of the club. Joe was very active in the Connecticut Association of Photographers, the New England Camera Club Council and the Photographic Society of America. He achieved a five star ranking in PSA international Exhibitions. He was an officer in the New England Camera Club Council for many years, serving as President, Chairman of the NECCC conference, and Treasurer. His many contributions through the years earned him the titles of Fellow of the Photographic Society of America (FPSA), and Honarary Member of the New England Camera Club Council (Hon NEC).

February 2002 "Hand Coloring Black & White Prints" by Bernie Hynes

Out February 11th program featured a very interesting and informative program by Bernie Hynes on hand coloring of black and white prints. Bernie Hynes is Past President of the Charter Oak Photographic Society where he currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors. He has been an active black and white printer for more than ten years. Bernie showed us a variety of his work and showed us how easy his technique is. At the end of the evening, he invited our members to try hand coloring using some black and white photos that he brought with him. Our members had a great time and Bernie has given some of them the desire to do some hand coloring of their own.

January 2002 "Zoo Photography" by Harold Siskin & "Kaleidoscope" by Paul Hanson

On January 14th, we were treated to two programs, both of which were very well done. Harold Sisken, who is our current Judges Chairman, as well as Past President of our club, is one of the club's tops photographers. First, Harold Sisken revealed his secrets in taking photographs at the zoo. His topics included equipment, flash, shooting through fences and glass and more. At the conclusion of his program, Harold had many of his favorite zoo photographs set to music. Harold's presentation was very informative, as well as entertaining. Paul Hanson, who is Past President of the Castle Craig Camera Club, has judged at NHCC for many years, and has presented programs for us as well. Paul Hanson's program "Kaleidoscope" featured many of hi favorite photos of all types accompanied by music. This program served to inspire us as to the many photographic subjects which are all around us. Our thanks go out to Harold and Paul for sharing their photographic skills with us.

December 2001 "NHCC Holiday Party

The NHCC Holiday party was held on December 10th at Pompeo's Restaurant in Branford. About 30 members attended, enjoying a very nice meal, a grab bag exchange and our mini slide show competition. Six members presented slide shows. Art Yost's program "Calling All Angels" was judged best by the club members in attendance. He was awarded the Ruth Sprague Memorial Trophy for the year 2001. Thanks go out to those who presented slides shows, and to Ann Yost for organizing the banquet.

November 2001 "NHCC 90th Anniversary Celebration" by Paul Peterson

On November 12th, the New Haven camera Club celebrated its 90th anniversary of its founding with a very special program by Paul Peterson. Paul traced the club's history, from earliest records of club activities to the present. The program concluded with five short sequences of slides accompanied by music, featuring the work of many of our members. It was interesting, not only to see the outstanding work of our members, but also to see how they rose through the ranks over the years.

October 2001 "Indonesia Night: by Bert Schmitz

Our October 8th program "Indonesian Journey", given by Bert Schmitz, took us on an exotic adventure to a very different land -- the Indonesian Islands of Sumatra, Java, Bali and Sulawesi. This program was not your typical travelogue, since Bert and his wife Ceely, traveled off the beaten path to experience Indonesia in a way that few people do. The two projector program was very entertaining and Bert's photography of Indonesia's people, places, wildlife and natural envirnoment was excellent. Bert, a member of the Greater Bridgeport Camera Club, and also their Treasurer, commented that he is lucky to combine his hobby of photography with his love of travel.
