Thurs May 1st thru September 2003 -- Yale Art Space Exhibit
Opening Reception, Artist's work (various mediums) on display for 6 months
at the Yale Physician's Building (including ~11 photographs from NHCC's own
Tom Cuchara)
Twelve (12) photographs by New Haven Camera Club member Tom Cuchara will
be exhibited at the Yale Physicians Building Art Place May 1, 2003 thru September
2003. The 7th exhibit at the YPB Art Place features paintings, photographs,
quilts, pottery, jewelry and sculptures by 16 different artists, including
our own Tom Cuchara. Tom's photograph of a giraffe silhouetted at sunset taken
in Kenya was also chosen as one of the images for the announcement postcard
(image attached) for the show. The State of Connecticut Commission on the
Arts recently selected "Art Place" for their Distinguished Advocates Award
for the year 2003.
The opening night reception (Cafe George by Paula and wine tasting by Mid-State
Distributors) will be Thursday May 1st 5:30-7:30pm. Free parking is available
in the Howard Avenue Garage. For directions call 203-785-5144.
Any artist interested in submitting work to the Selection Committee for
the exhibition (fall 2003) can also call Linda (203-785-5144) for submission
requirements. Current submission requirements are as follows: a portfolio
of 12-15 pieces of your work should be submitted along with a completed insurance
form, and an Artist statement (describing yourself and your work, to be included
in the program to be distributed at the opening reception).
B&W, Color, Digital, alternative process and mixed media photographs/prints
will be considered (also paintings, quilts, sculptures, pottery, jewelry,
wood, etc). They will provide the frames (pewter gray with outer dimensions
of 16x20) and the foam core support board. Images sizes should be between
7x7 and 12x16 placed in a 4ply white acid free mat. Interested buyers of artwork
will be directly referred to the artist. At this time, Art Place does not
take a percentage of the sale. One of the goals of Art Place is to build
a permanent collection of artwork to be displayed throughout the Yale Physicians
Building in the public and patient waiting areas. Their belief is that the
addition of artwork to the building reinforces the purpose of the space as
a place of comfort and healing. Therefore, they do appreciate it if participating
artists donate a piece to their permanent collection.
TOPS in CT 2002 Competition
The Connecticut Association of Photographers (CAP) will hold
its biennial slide and print competition on Saturday May 11, 2002. The competition
will be held at Heritage Hall, Heritage Village in Southbury, CT at 2:00pm.
The judging is open to the public. All Connecticut photographers are
invited to submit up to three slides and/or up to four prints to be juried
by out-of-state judges. Winning slides and prints are assembled into programs
which will form a traveling exhibit which is available to Connecticut camera
clubs. The New Haven Camera Club has always been well represented in past
shows and this year should be no exception. The slides and/or prints that
you enter need not have been entered into our competitions. The deadline
for entries is May 6, 2002. Contact CAP for more details
and an entry form.
