Nature is my primary, but
not my only, choice of subject material. "I get excited every time I see a great blue
heron, every time I see that
“magical light” resonating down from above, and every time I get a chance to slow
down and appreciate life’s everyday miracles." I enjoy taking
photographs of architecture, people, etc, but nature photography is my passion.
My love of photography comes from a desire to notice and appreciate the
world around me. I feel that the following quote by Harold Kushner
captures some of the essence of my fascination with the world around
me: “When your life is filled with the desire to see the holiness in
everyday life, something magical happens... ordinary life becomes
extraordinary and the very process nourishes your soul”. How very
breathtaking something becomes -- if we only take the time to notice
and appreciate it! My photography gives me a wonderful excuse to do
just that.
I use Canon equipment, with the Canon 40D as my
camera body. I use a Hakuba carbon fiber tripod, which I love, for most
of my shots. I also have a Kodak RFS 3600 slide scanner & an Epson
3800 printer. I enjoy finally being able to have a "digital darkroom"
where I can crop, enhance color saturation, burn in a "hot" spot in the
foreground, take out a stop sign, etc.
A member of the New Haven Camera Club since Spring
2000, I have been photographing since I was a teenager. The NHCC has
been a wonderful resource for me and my photography skills have grown
as a result of joining the club. The image competitions are always
inspiring to me and I learn seeing everyone else's images and from the
critiques. The presentations, workshops, field trips and just general
brainstorming aspects of the club each add another layer of value to
being a member. Marrying fellow NHCC photographer Tom Cuchara (June
'04) has just been wonderful. I am very lucky to have found in Tom a
great friend, husband, photographer and fellow explorer.
